Open Everything

Open source software, wikipedia and creative commons are open projects that have become mainstream. Beyond these well known initiatives, principles of openness increasingly form part of innovative initiatives and are entering debates, in very different areas of production, of social organization, of business models, and of cultural expression (just look at how many sessions in this re:publica programme relate to open approaches). Many times, open changes the game, challenges traditional business models, perceptions of property, and structures of organizational processes.

The session takes a look into openeverythings – thoughts, concepts, projects – and aims to discuss some „so what“ and „future visions“ questions in particular.

What exactly changes with open approaches? Why does openness matter? How can the concept help? What can be learnt from successful open source communities? How can we apply open approaches in different areas of work and activity? How much openness do we want/need, what for, and in which areas? Where do we want to take the open concept in the future?

openeverything is a global event series. One event took place in Berlin in December 08, and is now being continued here in a monthly openeverything fokus discussion on different related topics.
